In a CES-special edition of Mobile News for today, we bring you tablet news and tidbits. Dell steps forward again, and the new iPad may have peeked out momentarily.

Dell Re-Enters Tablet Market

Dell bowed out of the mobile market after its line of mobile phones failed to catch consumer eyes, but it is re-entering the mobile market later this year with mobile tablets. Admittedly, Dell did offer a tablet some time ago, but the Dell Streak 7 didn’t knock anyone’s socks off.

After much observation of market trends and consumer preferences in mobile devices, and tablets in particular, Dell states they now understand that user preferences extend beyond hardware into the device’s

“eco-systems.”

Steve Felice of Dell, stated,

“When we introduce the products, they will be consumer products, but we are going to make sure that they are very compatible with the business marketplace, which we don’t think Apple has addressed.”

Felice also stated that while they will continue investigating Android platforms for Dell tablets, Dell is also interested in Microsoft’s Windows 8 with the touch-supported features.

“We like Windows 8 but we continue to develop with Android as well. We are still going to be more choice-driven, based on the feedback we get from customers.”

Which iPad Is It?

Jeremy Horwitz of iLounge fame announced a sneak peak at the next iPad. Whilst Microsoft has been extremely hush-hush about the next iPad, Horwitz gains credibility in his statement because it was he who got the first hand print on the iPad 2 last year.

What’s unknown was whether the new iPad was the iPad 3 or an interim model presumably tagged as the iPad 2S, like the iPhone 4S. There apparently is argument for the S model, for there appeared to be few changes from the iPad 2, but the word’s still out on what model it actually was, despite the photos he said he had.

The mystery Pad was slightly thicker than the iPad 2, and the camera lens is bigger, much like the iPhone 4S’ lens. Beyond that and the Apple icon, the tablet is a complete mystery.

Horwitz admitted that the shell could have been developed mid-2011, so there’s no hint there either.
